Coca-Cola caves to Van Jones' 'ColorOfChange'

The Coca-Cola Company announced Wednesday that it was dropping its membership with the American Legislative Exchange Council [ALEC], a conservative advocacy group.

Coke had been targeted by the online [Liberal] grassroots group, ColorOfChange, an organization co-founded by President Obama's former Green Czar, Van Jones.

Last year, the group began targeting companies that support ALEC because, it claimed, the conservative group had been a strong advocate on behalf of voter ID laws.

On Wednesday, ColorOfChange started an online boycott of the Coca-Cola company, due to its membership with ALEC, because, it alleged, that ALEC had pushed for states to adopt legislation similar to Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law, a statute which is now under scrutiny due to the recent shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

However, ALEC spokeswoman, Kaitlyn Buss, said the group did not put a lot of effort or resources into promoting voter identification legislation. Buss also said that ALEC played no role in the enactment of Florida's "Stand Your Ground" statute, and she criticized those who have politicized the "tragedy" of Trayvon Martin's death.

Van Jones' ColorOfChange was also largely responsible for the advertising boycott that forced Fox News, in 2011, to terminate Glenn Beck's afternoon talk show.

Nevertheless, ColorOfChange deserves a lot of credit, and praise, for its efforts to combat the suppression of voter registration fraud. Thanks to ColorOf Change, the Mickey Mouses of the world can vote for Barack Obama in 2012 without fear.

Ahhh......

Update: Pepsi dropped its membership with ALEC back in January.

Way to go ColorOfChange!
